The Octavia Appeal is run through The Friends of Royal Brompton, an independent charity which raises funds for projects around the Royal Brompton Hospital, the UK’s largest heart and lung centre, The Octavia Appeal is specifically to help the paediatric intensive care unit (PICU) and paediatric ward with specific items.
The Royal Brompton, London, treat children from all around the South East of England as well as much further afield with, often life threatening, heart and lung conditions.
‘I have taken on this important cause because I have first hand experience as a parent who has spent time with a child in the PICU there. The PICU takes the sickest children in the country, most of who are on life support when they arrive and have become too sick to be cared for at the other more general major hospitals. A good day in the unit can be one where your child is “probably” strong enough to survive the next 12 hours, on a bad day you can have a consultant or two by your side continually.’
‘This appeal is personal to my family and is a great way of giving something back to this wonderful hospital which saves the lives of so many children, including my daughter Octavia’
We work to take on projects at the request of the hospital and unlike many charity appeals we can guarantee that all money raised goes directly towards the chosen projects without any administration charges being deducted. If a donor feels strongly about any particular project we are happy to apply their money where they wish it to be apportioned.
